Considered by many collectors to be along the best-looking sets ever issued, the T204 Ramly set is certainly one of the most ornate. With its gold borders and its elaborate design, the cards evoke the look of the Gilded Age and may be the one pre-World War One set that actually looks the part. The T204 set was released in 1909, at the beginning of the second great era of tobacco card issues. The cards were sold along with two specific Turkish cigarette brands, Ramly and T.T.T. Since the Ramly name is most commonly found on the cards (items with the T.T.T. name are incredibly scarce), they are known by that name. Card fronts feature a black and white player portrait in an oval frame, which is surrounded by a gold embossed design, with the player's last name, position and team name appearing at the bottom. A small number of cards in the set can also be found showing a square frame. The card backs contain advertising for the cigarette brand; the variation cards featuring a square frame are the exception, as they are blank-backed. Since the Ramly set is quite scarce, its cards are not as widely collected as those of the T206 or T205 sets. Despite being tough to find and often expensive, they still make great finds for collectors of tobacco cards, "type" collectors or those who simply like the unique quality of the cards.
1909 T204 Ramly Jesse C. Burkett. Arguably the most difficult and key HOF'R in the set possibly next to Johnson. Also considered his RC. This card displays clear B&W photo with solid register and focus. Corners touched but come to points. No creases. Clean reverse. This card does not come up often so T204 collector now is your chance. $4,299.00. SOLD
